Waterloo United U12A Girls are Champions at the Ancaster Heritage Days Tournament Jun 22, 2010

Waterloo United U12A Girls played in the Ancaster Heritage Days Tournament on the weekend of June 12-13, 2010.

The team started the tournament playing Niagara United and won 1-0; the second game against Toronto High Park Wildcats also resulted in a 1-0 win. The third game of the day for Waterloo and only the first game of the day for Kitchener Spirit U11 resulted in a 3-3 tie.

The team then had to wait until the rest of the teams finished their final games on Sunday morning to find out if they were in the final. A phone call to Enda (the coach) Sunday morning at 9am gave them the good news that they had tied with Kitchener for points and goal differential but won the tie-breaker with the least goals against.

The team quickly packed up and headed back to Ancaster for the 11am final game - a rematch with Niagara United. The game was scoreless through regulation time and two 5 minute periods of extra time failed to see a goal for either team. The game went to penalty kicks and Waterloo United prevailed.

The girl's spirit and hard play kept them in the game resulting in Waterloo United as champions!
